Description
Core Components of a 2kg Breather
When you buy an empty unit, it typically includes:
-
The Cylinder: A clear, UV-stabilized polycarbonate or toughened glass tube designed to hold exactly 2kg of silica gel.
-
The Oil Cup (Oil Seal): A small reservoir at the bottom. You fill this with transformer oil to act as a primary filter for dust and to prevent the silica gel from being constantly exposed to ambient humidity when the equipment isn’t “breathing.”
-
The Cap & Base: Usually made of powder-coated aluminum or stainless steel with a threaded mounting (typically 1/2″ or 3/4″ BSP/NPT).
-
Internal Hardware: A central tie-rod and gaskets to ensure the unit is airtight.2
Why Buy an Empty Unit?
-
Custom Desiccant Choice: You can choose between Orange (non-toxic, turns green when saturated) or Blue (contains cobalt chloride, turns pink) silica gel.
-
Replacement/Maintenance: Often, the original housing on a transformer becomes cracked or the gaskets fail, but the gel inside is still good. It is more cost-effective to replace just the housing.
-
Shipping Regulations: Shipping 2kg of silica gel can sometimes be classified differently than shipping a simple mechanical part; buying empty allows you to source the gel locally.
