35mm Cable Gland PVC Hood

Original price was: ₹60.00.Current price is: ₹52.00.

A 35mm cable gland PVC hood (shroud) is a large-format protective sleeve, typically designated as a Size 6 shroud in industrial catalogs. It is used to protect very large cable glands, such as the M35 metric or 1 ½” ET (Electrical Thread) variants.

At this size, the shroud is protecting heavy-duty power cables often used in industrial mains distribution, large-scale motor control, or renewable energy infrastructure.

Description

Key Applications

  • Corrosion Shielding: Large brass glands are susceptible to “verdigris” (green oxidation) in damp environments. The shroud keeps the metal dry and prevents the threads from seizing.

  • Earthing Security: For Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) cables, the 35mm shroud ensures the earth tag (banjo) and the armor clamping area remain free from moisture, preventing high-resistance faults in the grounding system.

  • Environmental Sealing: It acts as an umbrella for the gland, helping the assembly maintain an IP66 rating by diverting water away from the entry point of the enclosure.

Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: Fits M35 metric glands, 1 ½” ET industrial glands, or PG29 (large-body) glands.

  • Materials:

    • Standard PVC (Black): UV-resistant and flexible; the standard for outdoor industrial sites.1

    • LSF (Low Smoke and Fume): Often grey or white; mandatory for indoor use in “high-traffic” areas like hospitals, airports, or tunnels to prevent toxic smoke in a fire.

  • Temperature Rating: Generally stable from -60°C to +90°C.

Installation Challenges at 35mm

As the shroud size increases, the material becomes significantly thicker and harder to manipulate.

Step Technique
Softening Essential: Soak the shroud in a bucket of hot water for 2–3 minutes. Cold PVC at this thickness is almost impossible to stretch over a 35mm hex-nut.
Trimming Use a sharp utility knife to cut the tapered end. Ensure the hole is roughly 2mm smaller than your cable diameter to create a tight “stretch-fit” seal.
Order Ensure the order on the cable is: Shroud > Gland Nut > Compression Ring > Gland Body. You cannot put the shroud on once the cable is terminated.
