42mm Cable Gland PVC Hood

Original price was: ₹60.00.Current price is: ₹54.00.

A 42mm cable gland PVC hood (commonly known as a shroud) is a large-format protective cover designed for M40 metric glands or 1 ½” to 2″ ET (Electrical Thread) glands. In the industrial “Size” classification, this is typically referred to as a Size 7 shroud.

At this diameter, you are dealing with significant power distribution cables, such as 70mm² or 95mm² 3-core Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) cables.

Description

Key Applications

  • Corrosion Protection: Large M40/42mm brass glands have a wide surface area prone to oxidation. The shroud prevents “crevice corrosion” in the threads and clamping zones.

  • Earthing Security: It protects the Earth Tag (Banjo) and the armor clamping ring from moisture. This is vital because, at these power levels, a corroded earth connection can lead to dangerous fault conditions.

  • Environmental Sealing: It diverts water, oil, and dust away from the entry point of the distribution board or motor terminal box, maintaining an IP66 rating.

Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: Fits M40 x 1.5 metric glands, 1 ½” / 1 ¾” ET industrial glands, and PG36 glands.

  • Material Options:

    • Standard PVC (Black): UV-stabilized for outdoor industrial use.1

    • LSF/LSOH (Low Smoke and Fume): Usually grey; mandatory for indoor public infrastructure (stations, hospitals, tunnels).

  • Temperature Range: -60°C to +90°C.

  • Internal Diameter (Bell): Approximately 55mm–60mm to allow for the large hexagonal nut of an M40 gland.

Professional Installation Tips

Handling a shroud of this size requires specific techniques due to the thickness of the PVC.

Step Technique Why?
1. Heat Treatment Soak the shroud in boiling water for 3–5 mins. At 42mm, the PVC is very rigid. Heating it makes it elastic enough to stretch over the gland.
2. Precise Trimming Cut the “tail” in small increments. You want the tail to be roughly 3-4mm smaller than the cable’s outer diameter for a true waterproof tension fit.
3. Lubrication Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the cable. This allows the heavy PVC shroud to slide down the cable without snagging.
4. Alignment Ensure the “bell” end covers the Earth Tag. If the tag is left exposed, it will rust quickly, compromising the safety of the circuit.
