Environmental Integrity: Large enclosures for main switchgear are often located outdoors or in damp basements.1 The 48mm shroud acts as a “rain coat” for the gland, preventing water from sitting in the threads of the M50 entry.

Corrosion Shielding: High-voltage or high-current connections generate heat; moisture combined with heat accelerates corrosion. The shroud keeps the brass body and the earth bonding point (banjo) dry.

Safety & Earthing: For cables of this size, the earth fault current can be massive. If the armor clamping zone inside the gland corrodes due to lack of protection, the earthing path could fail during a fault, leading to a fire or electrocution hazard.

Heavy-Duty Installation Guide
Installing a 48mm shroud is physically demanding because the PVC is very thick. Follow these steps to ensure a proper fit:

| 1. Soften | Submerge in boiling water for at least 5 minutes. | Do not try to fit this “cold.” You will likely tear the PVC or fail to get it over the hex nut. |
| 2. Lubricate | Apply dish soap or silicone spray to the cable jacket. | This reduces friction, allowing the heavy shroud to slide easily into position. |
| 3. Trim | Cut the “tail” using a sharp utility knife. | At this size, the cable is heavy; ensure the tail is tight to prevent the weight of the cable from pulling the shroud off. |
| 4. Position | Pull the bell end over the Earth Tag. | Ensure the earthing “banjo” is completely covered to prevent oxidation of the copper lug connection. |
