Description
Key Applications
-
Armored Cable Protection: For SWA (Steel Wire Armored) cables, the shroud protects the “cone and ring” assembly that clamps the armor, preventing moisture from rusting the steel wires.
-
Industrial Weatherproofing: It shields the gland from direct rain, snow, and hose-down environments, helping the installation maintain an IP66 or IP67 rating.
-
Corrosion Resistance: It provides a physical barrier for brass or nickel-plated glands against salt spray in coastal regions or chemical splashes in factories.
-
Mechanical Protection: It helps prevent the accumulation of abrasive dust or grit in the gland’s threads, which can seize the metal over time.
Technical Specifications
-
Compatible Sizes: Typically fits 28mm, 1″ ET, or PG21 glands.
-
Materials: * Standard PVC: UV-stabilized, usually black.
-
LSF (Low Smoke & Fume): Often grey or white; mandatory in tunnels, hospitals, and high-occupancy buildings for fire safety.
-
-
Cable Diameter: Usually accommodates cables with an outer diameter (OD) between 18mm and 26mm.
Installation Tips for Large Hoods
-
The “Soak” Method: Because 28mm shrouds are made of thick PVC, they can be very stiff. If you are struggling to pull it over the hex-nut of the gland, soak the shroud in hot water for 1-2 minutes. This makes the PVC significantly more pliable.
-
Trimming the Tail: Do not cut the tail too wide initially. Trim the end of the shroud in small increments until it requires a firm push to slide onto the cable. This ensures a “glove-like” waterproof seal.
-
Order of Operations: Ensure the shroud, gland nut, and earth tag are all threaded onto the cable in the correct order before you strip the cable armor.
Quick Selection Table
| Gland Type | Recommended Shroud Size | Typical Cable |
| M25 (Large Body) | 28mm / Size 4 | 4-core 6mm² or 10mm² SWA |
| 1″ ET (Imperial) | 28mm / Size 4 | 2-core 16mm² SWA |
| PG21 | 28mm | Heavy-duty Control Cables |
